FROM THE COMMUNITY SCRAPBOOK
A little piece of Maple history
Before a playlist could know your guild’s name, a DJ could read it out loud. For some Maplers, the original Maple Radio became part of the memory of playing together.
A radio made around the game
The original station’s surviving About page dates its beginning to January 1, 2007. It describes starting primarily around Global MapleStory and later serving European and Southeast Asian communities. A third-anniversary announcement preserved in a March 2010 archive repeats that opening date. Those are the original station’s statements, rather than an independently audited founding record. Read its About page and the anniversary archive.
The About page also describes a DJ application followed by a possible interview. Its worldwide-DJ count was a contemporary self-description; we do not present it as a verified staffing total.
A busy little home between adventures
The preserved 2010 homepage mixes station news, DJ posts, listening links, and community activity. Its small glossy tabs, compact columns, colorful masthead, and MapleStory artwork are the visual reference for this site’s nostalgic styling. Archive replays can have missing assets or mix nearby captures, so they are a window into the era rather than a perfect reproduction.
The same archive includes a Maple music-video contest celebrating the station’s third birthday. It is a small example of how the station invited listeners to make something together, beyond choosing the next song. Explore the March 2010 capture.
When a broadcast became a gathering
A January 2011 capture preserves an announcement for an OMNI show closing out 2010. The post promoted a Big Bang theme and invited listeners to meet DJs in Channel 12 Free Markets across GMS and EMS worlds. Nearby posts advertise a Christmas event, a European countdown, and listening through iTunes or Winamp. These are examples from those announcements, not a claim that every show followed the same format. Read the archived announcements.
The part that stayed with people
In a July 2018 community thread on Nexon’s forum, a player proposed bringing back a station with home-based DJs, shoutouts, and giveaways. That was a fan proposal hosted on the forum, not a Nexon announcement. Read the 2018 discussion.
Later Reddit comments recall requesting songs, dedicating music to friends and guilds, and gathering in the Free Market. These are personal memories, with identities and details we have not independently verified. They help explain the affection for the idea, but they do not establish a complete timeline. Read the listener recollections.
What we cannot establish
The sources here do not establish a precise shutdown date, a definitive reason the original station stopped, or an unbroken organizational history. Other MapleStory radio projects and podcasts should not automatically be treated as the same station.
A new station with its own story
Today’s MapleRadio.net takes inspiration from that social experience: familiar-looking tabs, human hosts, requests, and company while you play. The original team’s work belongs to its own history. This project has its own operator, music library, policies, and community.
